The Mecca of Manga and Anime

From the 1950s through the early 1960s, Tokiwa-so, a two-story wooden apartment in Shiinamachi (now the Minami-Nagasaki district of Toshima City) was the home of Osamu Tezuka and other up-and-coming comic artists who would go on to shape a new era of manga.
The origins of manga culture that emerged from Tokiwa-so have evolved into the anime culture of today. In recent years, Otome Road and other anime-related content have emerged in Ikebukuro, with the quarter surging in popularity, especially among young female anime fans.
