Childcare Center

Childcare center s take care of children in place of their parents/guardian when the parents/guardian are not able to take care of a child due to work or sicknesses. Fees vary by household income.

Short Stay Special Daycare

Licensed childcare centers take in children who cannot be taken care of temporarily by their parents/guardian due to sicknesses and other urgent situations, but only if there is space available in a class for children of the same age.

Note: As a general rule, the service is available up to 1 month.

Small Childcare Program

Small childcare centers are certified by the Toshima City Office for nursing 6 to 19 children. The facilities provide care for children who live in Toshima City and are under the age of 3 (as of April 1 of the school year the child wishes to enroll).

Family-Type Childcare Program

Nursery service providing detailed care for 1 to 5 children in a family-like atmosphere. The facility provides care for children who live in Toshima City and are under the age of 3 (as of April 1 of the school year the child wishes to enroll).

Certified Childcare Centers

Certified Childcare Centers are facilities certified by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to be equivalent to licensed childcare centers. It provides care for under school age children starting from the end of maternity leave (minimum 8 weeks).

Temporary Childcare

Childcare is provided by the hour for children under school age starting from 10 month old, normally cared for at home, for temporary needs of the parents/guardian, such as doctor appointments, school events, work, respite, etc.

Fees: 500 yen per hour (reduction/exemption programs available)

Children’s Short Stay

When the parents/guardian cannot take care of children 43 days after birth up to the first March 31st from the day they turn 18 years of age due to reasons such as sicknesses, care facilities or volunteer families in the City will temporarily take care of the child.

Childcare Experience

The City provides childcare experience in order for parents/guardians to solve anxieties related to parenting and to gain confidence in their parenting. Parents/guardians can watch children play, see how nursery care is provided and also talk to nursery staff about their worries regarding parenting. The child will be with other children in the childcare center. Lunch is available upon request (for children only, charge applies).

Family Support Center

Those who want help with childrearing (User Members) and those who want to help them (Helper Members) become members of the program to support each other with childrearing in the local community (paid support activities). Drop off and pick up children at daycare facilities, schools, lessons, etc., and take care of them for short periods of time. Helper Members must complete Toshima City’s designated training program. You must register as a member to use the service.
