Rules for living

There are rules and manners to be considered in Japan for everyone to live comfortably.

Rules on contract for living in rented accommodations such as apartments

When living in a housing complex such as an apartment, follow the rules written in the contract.

You can neither have a roommate nor rent your room to anyone without the landlord’s permission. Also, you cannot have pets such as dogs or cats without the landlord’s permission. Always contact your realtor or the owner of the accommodation.

Noise

Do not speak loud or play music in high volume in your room, hallway of the apartment, etc. or on the street. Especially when you are living at an apartment, be aware that the sound of your TV, footsteps, sound of closing the door may disturb your next door neighbor or residents living on the floor below, especially during the night.

Sewage

Do not discharge oil into sewers. It may clog the drain and cause odors. Also, do not dispose of anything other than toilet paper into a flushing toilet. Disposing of diapers and sanitary items may cause the plumbing system to plug up.

Rules on smoking cigarettes

Smoking on streets and littering is prohibitted.

Please smoke in the designated smoking areas.
