平成11年10月13日、区議会の全会一致決議に基づき、区民の安全で快適な生活を交通事故から守るため、豊島区は「交通安全都市宣言」を行いました。
近年、交通事故発生件数は増加傾向にあり、その原因の多くは、安全不確認や、信号無視、横断禁止場所での横断など交通ルールを守らないことによります。
区では、区民一人ひとりの交通安全意識を高めるとともに、警察などの関連機関と連携をとりながら、なお一層の交通安全対策に取り組み、交通事故のないまちをめざします。
交通安全都市宣言
交通事故のない社会の実現は、区民共通の願いである。
しかし、依然として、区内では死亡事故をはじめ交通事故が多発している。
交通事故を防止するためには、道路交通環境の改善を図るとともに、一人ひとりが交通ルールを守り、思いやりのある交通マナーを実践することが必要である。
よって、豊島区及び豊島区民は、交通事故のない安全で安心して生き生きと暮らせるまちの実現に努力することを決意し、ここに交通安全都市を宣言する。

Traffic Safety City Proclamation The creation of a society without traffic accidents is the common desire of all Toshima City residents. Nonetheless, traffic accidents, including fatal ones, continue to occur all too frequently in our city. To prevent traffic accidents, it is necessary not only to improve the roads and traffic environment, but also for each and every citizen to obey traffic rules and practice proper driving etiquette with consideration for others. Toshima City and its residents therefore hereby resolve to create a peaceful and secure city without traffic accidents in which all can enjoy life in peace and security, and hereby proclaim Toshima City a Traffic Safety City.
